Summer in Hampshire brings with it a landscape that’s bursting with colour, warmth, and character. For photographers, it’s a season of golden light and fleeting natural beauty—each setting offering its own rhythm and tone.
As someone who spends the summer months behind the lens in fields, meadows, and along the coast, I’ve come to appreciate how much the landscape influences the mood of a photograph. Whether it’s the softness of daisies in bloom or the sparkle of sun on the sea, Hampshire offers a wealth of outdoor spaces perfect for storytelling through photography.
Here are four of my favourite seasonal locations for summer photography.

🌼 Daisy Meadows: Early Summer’s Gentle Start
Daisy-covered fields mark the quiet start of summer. There’s a gentle, natural charm to these meadows that suits calm, candid moments—especially with children. The light is fresh, and the atmosphere unforced. These shoots are often about letting little ones explore, picking flowers or simply sitting together in the long grass.
As a Hampshire photographer, I love returning to these spots year after year. Their simplicity allows people to stand out in the frame—no props, no distractions, just a clean, peaceful setting.

💜 Lavender Fields: Fragrant Rows and Flattering Light
Hampshire’s lavender fields are in bloom for just a few weeks in high summer, and during that time they become one of the most atmospheric places to shoot. The long rows of purple, the buzz of bees, and the golden evening sun make these sessions feel like a little escape.
As an outdoor photographer in Hampshire, timing these shoots well is key. The light is best later in the day, and the bloom tends to peak around mid-July. Whether it's for family portraits or quiet maternity sessions, the lavender fields offer an almost dreamlike quality that’s hard to match elsewhere.

🌻 Sunflower Fields: Bold Colour and Big Energy
Later in the summer, Hampshire’s sunflower fields explode with colour. Towering blooms and vibrant yellows create a sense of playfulness that comes through clearly in photographs. These fields are full of texture, depth, and movement—perfect for lively, expressive sessions.
Children love weaving between the stems, and couples often find themselves laughing through the whole shoot. As a Southampton photographer, I find that these sessions are less about posing and more about letting people enjoy the moment.

🏖️ Sandy Beaches: Natural Light and Coastal Calm
Few places capture the essence of summer quite like a sandy beach. Hampshire’s coastline, especially around the Southampton area, offers soft sand, shallow water, and wide open skies. These sessions are all about movement—barefoot walks, splashing in the shallows, or just watching the tide roll in.
Beach shoots tend to be very relaxed. The horizon offers space, both visually and emotionally, and the natural palette of blues and neutrals keeps the focus on connection and mood. Whether photographing families at play or quiet moments between parents and children, the coast offers a beautifully timeless setting.

A Season of Stories
Summer doesn’t last long—but the textures, colours, and light it offers are unforgettable. From meadows to coastal stretches, each of these locations brings a different story to tell.
As someone who works across the region as a Hampshire and Southampton photographer, I’m always reminded that outdoor photography isn’t just about scenery—it’s about how people feel in those spaces. And in summer, that feeling is usually one of ease, openness, and joy.
